Time-Domain Geometric Eddy-Current Formulation for Hexahedral Grids

چکیده
The aim of this paper is to present a 3-D time-domain eddy-current formulation based on the discrete geometric approach (DGA) over unstructured and nonorthogonal hexahedral dual grids. The resulting differential algebraic system of equation, solved by means of a singly-diagonally implicit Runge–Kutta (SDIRK) variable step-size solver, leads to very accurate results at reduced computational costs, as shown by numerical analysis.

Construction of Hexahedral Block Topology and its Decomposition to Generate Initial Tetrahedral Grids for Aerodynamic Applications
Making an initial tetrahedral grid for complex geometry can be a tedious and time consuming task. This paper describes a novel procedure for generation of starting tetrahedral cells using hexahedral block topology. Hexahedral blocks are arranged around an aerodynamic body to form a flow domain. Each of the hexahedral blocks is then decomposed into six tetrahedral elements to obtain an initial t...
متن کاملA Vector Finite Element Time-Domain Method for Solving Maxwell's Equations on Unstructured Hexahedral Grids
In this paper the vector finite element time-domain (VFETD) method is derived, analyzed, and validated. The VFETD method uses edge vector finite elements as a basis for the electric field and face vector finite elements as a basis for the magnetic flux density. The Galerkin method is used to convert Maxwell’s equations to a coupled system of ordinary differential equations. The leapfrog method ...
متن کاملA geometric integral formulation for eddy-currents
In the computational electromagnetism community it is known how the differential formulation of an eddy-current problem, can be translated into a finite dimensional system of equations involving circulations and fluxes, by means of the so-called Discrete Geometric Approach. This is done by exploiting the geometric structure behind Maxwell’s equations. In this paper, we will show how the same Di...
متن کاملCompu1er Modeling of Pulsed Eddy-currents in Conducting Materials for Ndt Purposes
The numerical modeling of single frequency eddy-current phenomena based on the magnetic vector potential has been successfully applied to many NDT applications [1-3]. Despite the considerable wealth of sinusoidal eddy-current literature, the numerical modeling of pulsed eddy-currents has received little attention. Most of the recent finite element transient eddy-current NDT modeling [4,5] emplo...
متن کاملSheet-Based Hexahedral Mesh Generation
Historically, hexahedral finite element mesh generation has required significant geometric decomposition with the resulting consequence that generating hexahedral meshes can be extremely difficult to perform and automate and the process often takes several orders of magnitude longer in time to complete than current methods for generating tetrahedral meshes. In this work, we present methods for ...
